Veteran Chronicles: Gunner shot down by Germans, survived 10 days in open water
Chief Master Sgt. Harry C. August flew combat missions during World War II and was shot down by enemy water vessels in the northern Atlantic Ocean. He and three other crew members survived in open water in a half-sunken life raft before being picked up by the U.S. Navy 10 days later.
